As a bride-to-be, I was obsessed with wanting my wedding to be one with good warm vibes & one with personality, something that makes me feel real & comfortable rather than an occassion where a bride just follows the notion. I wanted to enjoy the process towards the big day. So here I'd like to share the people/vendors who made that journey wonderful for me, whether or not their service were hired by me or not. Review:
The best that I could ever ask for! *Big Grin*
Why??
Cos my mum & I are two leceh(troublesome) individuals who know what we want & we have so many questions & suggestions and Kak Lynn, was really really patient with us & she listens to our suggestions & feedbacks & try to accomodate to changes & adjustments for our packages. We took up deco+catering package from them first at the Wedding Expo in 2008 and later along the way, we took up the make up+outfit package. For me, I was particular about the deco, I showed Kak Lynn a whole bunch of pictures on floral arrangement & colour concept & dais design. Another one was Wedding Gown. I loved a particular Elie Saab's wedding gown so so much but I couldn't afford or wouldn't even wanna make one to keep cos I'll wear it only once! So i suggested to Kak Lynn whether she can make it & then rent it out like any of her wedding dresses. She didn't answer immediately but hee she agreed! I was so so so Happy!

And for outfit selection, we were asked to well select what's on the shelf...but after such fine treatment by Inzimage, i candidly ask if we can try on the outfits and Kak Lynn again obliged. So, pre-wedding, she was already halfway there to makin me a happy bride.

Then when the dais was ready the night before our Sanding, mum wasn't happy with the chairs on the dais and she told kak Lynn abt it and the very morning before our Sanding, she got the team to change the seats and BOOMZ! Everything looked good, everything fell in place & the wedding went smoothly Alhamdulillah! Food was juz nice, get good reviews for it and Oh...Kak Lynn surprised us with complimentary free flow ice-cream!! And despite her crazy hard work behind the scene the nites before & many shuffling around to put on make-up for different brides that week end, she was still upbeat & cheerful the whole day!

I saw how she really puts in the effort to make my wedding a success and I'm really really grateful to her & her team for it. Mum said she cannot thank Kak Lynn enuff and the same goes for me too! We truly commend her for putting heart into her works without losing her temper at all. Very impressed, very satisfied customer we are!

Oh and I almost forgot to mention how so pretty I felt as a bride dolled up by her! Love her make-up...it wasn't OTT as to me, her make-up style enhances a bride's beauty rather than transform her completely. And that was what I was hoping for :D

So here's a Big THANK YOU to L.A.B. Bridal Couture for all the efforts to making my wedding a success!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

When we met Hairolz at his studio, it was a pleasant experience & tis dude really roll out quality stuff without any airs. I was not only impressed with the photos but the customised albums & photobooks as well but unfortunately, my budget was slightly lower than their charging rate & i was targetting for more no. of photos & not so much about the pizazz.so, didn't make that deal but i'm surely recommendin them for their works!

Iyuan presented to me his sireh junjung created by Our Midas Touch. It was lovely! The roses lasted from Thursday night all the way till after our wedding reception on Sunday but the jasmine flowers wilted by Saturday night, which were then removed before our Sanding day. Also I'd like to mention that Mira, the creator, was an understanding & assuring lady as she took in our order even though we engaged her last minute under the recommendation of our friend Yanni, who previously engaged her service for her wedding Hantaran.

Simply adore our Wedding invitation cards & guestbook by this husband & wife team! We had colour themes for the cards, rough ideas & a photo each to be printed into our cards and gave them the liberty to design them. We gave them less than two months to create the cards, that's not a lot of time but they did a brilliant job!

Our friends & guests adore the cards & those who saw the guestbook at the wedding reception were also delighted that it was similar to the design of my card!

Here is where we custom-make our wedding bands. Sandra & Evelyn attended to us on different occassions & we are happy with both of their service. We learnt quite a bit from them & from there, were given some time to think of how we want our rings to be. When we finally had some rough ideas, we proposed our ideas & they gave their professional opinions and we were happy that our rings turn out as how we wanted them to be, especially with engraved Arabic inscriptions on them.

So yeaps, for custom-made rings (they customise other jewelry too if i'm not mistaken) that are pretty reasonably priced, do make an appointment with Fairy's Inc!

Review:
Wedding Sutera was another vendor for wedding decor that I had my eyes on cos their dais are unique blend of ethnically regal design with a lil modern touch which by far put them in a league of their own. Told the owner that although I like their designs, the colours of their dais they had so far are too "heavy" for my liking & I showed her some of the colour concepts I have in mind & pictures & voila, she came up with Pink Aura without losing Wedding Sutera's signature look! I'm really happy to see the dais design, the materials & flowers used for the reception decor...very refreshing & original! I'm really very grateful that my suggestion was taken into serious consideration & something so beautiful was created!

But again, due to a lil twist of fate...I did not engage their service too. So to those keen on Wedding Sutera's service, go for it...it's Quality stuff & don't be afraid to share your ideas cos the owner listens to her potential clients!

Review:
Anggerik Impian was my first choice for wedding decor. Why? Because i adore their floral arrangement as well as their versatility. Meeting up with Shidek was really awesome because he not only listened but he dished out good info for us who have no idea what we were in for, for this whole wedding shindig! I truly commend him for being such a helpful wedding planner & going all out even though we have not signed up with him anything, he even brought us to see his collaborator for wedding outfits, Inzimage! And we were even asked to try on a few pieces of their outfits with no obligations. There, Kath was in charge and upon telling her that I would like to have a customised gown & showing her a couple of pictures off the Net, she actually drew out the design right there & even showed me a lil mock-up. Very impressive & professional!

I really enjoyed the services by Shidek & Kath, so I was terribly sorry that I did not end up engaging them due to a lil twist of fate. Nevertheless, to those couples looking for a wholesome wedding planner service, Shidek's the dude! And there were two things that he said which I remembered till now that I'd like to share with future bride/groom-to-be:

"Never step on your wedding planner's tail"-meaning be a lil patient & give them some time to respond & don't push them so hard

"Do u think the presentation of invitation cards are not important? Think again cos a card is the first thing people receive from you & if ur invitation card stands out, they draw people to come to your wedding wondering how the wedding will turn out to be"

These are pearls of wisdom from a wedding planner ok, i heeded & i'm happy!

First Monthsary!

it's One month already since I was all dolled up, sitting at Mujahidin Mosque waiting for that moment when Iyuan coolly accepted me as his wife as my nervous uncle gave my hand away, after which I had a hard time tryin to remove the ring from holder to put on to his finger & his samping keep slipping & the nite where we had rose shower in the bedroom with the photographer clicking away & ate ice-cream while playing sparklers at the void deck. Wow!

honeymoon's over also yet we've still got bits of the wedding still not settled...for one is our Marriage Certificate! it's still at the ROMM...hahhaha! and Photos, the official ones as well as the studio/outdoor photoshoot are not out yet!! oh and wedding presents...they are still all wrapped up except for Emi's pretty coasters & cherry-scented toiletries set from Kak Ekin & Liz. lol

for now, i guess we both are on the stage of adapting...for me especially, i've always done things my way but now as a wife, it's not always such. also now it's he not me first & gimme gimmes. i hope i will be strong enuff & fast enuff to "change gear" and be "in sync" with whatever challenges that come my way especially in the housework dept...in time that Ayam Masak Merah will come, insya Allah! lol

to my dear husband, thank u for showering the silly, clumsy, cranky me with ur love, patience & care....here's to the first of many monthsaries & marriage bliss to us!!! A lifetime more to go ok, Mesye! lol

i LOVE LOVE LOVE u!!

Honeymoon Escapade: MOROCCO n back

The last of destinations for our escapade....Morocco!

We arrived at Marrakech slightly after sunset & checked in at Riad Andalla. Thankfully tis time, we had an airport transfer service & the owner fetched us from where the taxi stopped somewhere near the Jemaa el Fnaa square. Took us into the small derb Zaari to welcome us into the cosy cosy riad & gave us recommendations for places of interest to visit, where to eat & change our Euros to Morroccan dirhams. Our adventure begins from there. The next couple of days were spent sightseein at Majorelle Garden, which was once a home to the designer Yves Saint Laurent, as well as the Koutobia Mosque. Of course, not to forget the souks(markets) of busy Marrakech which very much reminds us of our very own Geylang market during Ramadhan, only that the souks & the square are lively like that every single day! Around us were many mosques & we were most amused by the prayer call. They dun syncronise all at once but one after another...it was weird for us especially hearing them first time in the early morning for Subuh. We can't quite make out the pronunciations till we finally hear them out in our room where we dumped our bargains.

After checkin out from the riad, we continued discovering the beautiful nature of the country, passing through the Tiz & Tishka pass to admire the Atlas mountains, view the beautiful Rose Valley & Dades Gorge stopping at Dar Ayour one night to be warmly received by a Berber guesthousekeeper who even brought us into his basement reserved for friends only cos I mentioned abt sheesha & he actually asked his friend to come over & bring some Apple flavoured sheesha for us to share while watchin a Spanish movie! How awesome! There we were also excited to see many many stars on the terrace & we looked forward to spendin the nite in the Merzouga desert the following day!

The next mornin we opened our eyes greeted by a sight of beautiful rock structures & a flowing stream which we can only hear the nite before as it was so dark! Before the drive to Merzouga, a part of the Saharan desert, we were wowed by the Todra Gorge! We reached Merzouga in time for sunset & after a session of drumming, we gotta noe a couple from Spain, Maria & Israel. We bonded over dinner & had a great time with the Berber guides! We were asked to sing somethin to reflect our culture but Iyuan & I were both stumped. So not culturally-inclined, we had to disappoint them with presentin them with nothin...eeks!! The only thing we told them abt SG are mainly the Foood & Shopping! Those are the SG culture I noe best! After the magical surreal Merzouga trip, we checked in at the riad called Riad Les Jardins de Mouassine, on another side of the souks of Marrakech. Then we met Maria & Israel again the next day near the square to do some last shopping & bargaining at the souks together as well as a lil sightseeing at the Bahia Palace.

We had fun but were quite disappointed that the Marrakshis did not celebrate Eid ul Adha on Friday like in SG, instead they celebrated on Saturday, the day we were bound for London. Bahh..so we spent Friday sleepin in a tad longer & packin our luggages, which has expanded from 1 huge case, 1 shoulder bag & 1 haversack to 3 huge bags + the 2 hand luggages! Upon reachin London Gatwick Airport, we had some time to burn so we decided to go back to Bayswater since Knightbridge was not very convenient for us. Only to realise the bloody Central line got disrupted & we had to go through hell during our last trip to the Halal Subway! Oh well...we survived but were shagged out! Upon arrivin in Singapore, I looked so crappy but were very happy to see my family & the lesbos with their hubbies! Iyuan then wanted to go home for a shower but we did a lil drive down by Orchard Road before headin home as grandma wanna see the Christmas light up. Then..our honeymoon was over...

So like a berber's respond when asked how are u...i say Morocco is Bi khair, Alhamdulillah!!

Honeymoon Escapade: PARIS

Ahh Paris...after 2hours of Eurostar ride, we reached the City of Lights. Now in a city of foreign language & knowin that we might get ignored for not speakin french, i equipped myself with a French phrase book which i bought last minute at the Changi Airport. It saved us when it comes to askin direction & learnin food ingredients. So we noe our poulet & hache viande & thon & jambon very well now.

Spent our 2 nites in a charming lil hotel in Republique...time seems to past so fast, needless to say cos it's autumn, day turns dark by 6pm. Paris is like an infatuation that I haven't yet got to know enuff, it was charming with the lovely ponts(bridges) & the lil details on the old buildings but the accordion tunes exist only in my head when the reality is that every nite the city hear the wails of the police siren..aloud & alot! perhaps because it was the World Cup qualifying season and the Irish supporters were bein rowdy & the Algerian supporters were celebratin too much. Football seems to take centre stage of tis part of our honeymoon, while we witnessed the passion of fans of these two countries...aside from that, Iyuan cannot understand what is so nice about Paris! Half the time, we were lookin for cafes which served fresh croissant(which we can't find) & another half of the time we were tryin to navigate our way around with the lack of street names & signs! So frustrating!
We spent so lil time sokain up the sceneries, only managing to go up the Eiffel, got a tad near the Arc du Triomphe & spent the 2nd day at Disneylandland and lookin for good bargains at La Vallee Village, the charm didn't grow on us. Pehaps cos we didn't getta visit Montmartre, which i think is where the charming lil corners & shops will be! Oh well...

La vie en rose, Paris...

Honeymoon Escapade: LONDON+OLD TRAFFORD

Wowness! My dreams since I were 15 was finally fulfilled...I gotta marry the "anglo" lad, go to the UK & set foot on the ground of the Old Trafford! Iyuan definitely enjoyed himself much too!

The area we stayed in was excellent cos it's nicely connected to a few tube lines & most importantly it's got halal food around. There's even a halal branch of Subway eatery there which we cannot resist but go back to grab our last bite before headin back to SG lugging our 3 bulky luggages around!

Memories of London was firstly my booboo. We arrived on a rainy evening, only to realise i forgot to take down the address of my hotel!! I had to scamper for internet access to retrieve it & then we were lost tryin to find the bloody location of the hotel cos of the lil lanes!! I nearly burst into tears at the mess but thankfully it was sorted out after apologisin to hubby for such trouble! Other than that, memories of London evolves around the tube, lotsa walkin along lil lanes, clothes & chilly weather. And the funniest thing is, Iyuan caught on the Italian accent there, thanks to a stall owner at Camden market & a few others we eavedropped while on the train....hehe

It's Bittersweet Symphony tis London...

London to Paris to Marrakech

Salam from Marrakech to all of u!

Finally i got the chance to surf in & spend some time in front of the laptop while mesye is asleep! hee~

it's been 16 days since we're married & it's been crazy busy till right down to our honeymoon! Glad that all went pretty well & much credits go to the family, friends & vendors who made the wedding such a beautiful affair!

It's still so surreal that I'm somebody's wife already...even Iyuan felt the same way! Every now and then as we walk along side each other...he'll turn & chuckle..."Mesye's my wife!". Funny!

Anyways am currently enjoyin our honeymoon escapade together! It isn't all smooth sailing but it has been blissful. London & Paris have surely been eye-openers for me, Marrakech turned out pretty much as what I expected so far, besides the unexpected donkeys piss/poop smell wafting every now & then along Jemaa El Fnaa. We've yet to check out desert style living...hopefully we'll survive the camel rides & cold winds in a couple of nite's time, as how we survived the chilly weather in London and Paris! I hear tt it's been rainin these past few days in SG aye? do take good care my dears & have a great week ahead!!

Pictures won't be up so soon as the wi-fi reception's been rather sucky...so...be patient okie?

Bitten by the sentimental bug

as mum & i shifted around our furnitures like musical chairs...now in my room lies her double bed. a new reality is inchin in bit by bit...i'm gonna miss my "ME" space

and most of all, the thing i hold dear...my 80s SONY boombox..i really don't wanna throw it away..but it's just a matter of days. the volume control is already cranky, the top bit of the antenna is broken but it served the family & me well for the past years growin along with me, thru my childhood, thru my adolescence & now even, once in awhile, servin up chillout music from Lush99.5fm or soothin piano pieces from 96.3fm.

well i guess i have to juz move along with the changes & look forward to creating a "WE" space for myself & dearest hubby-to-be.

for now, my last nites of bachelorettehood shall be spent lyin next to my mum, in her bed in my room...

Saturday 24 October 2009

Aloha!

The theme for mesye's company D&D was Hawaiian Night, so i stuck a huge flower in my hair & wore a tropical green dress to go with the theme...and 2 unexpected things happened. Weirdness but i should somewhat feel complimented.

First was...a Mat Cisco tried to hit on me la when I was waitin impatiently for a cab. I was really taken aback cos it is very rare for such a thing to happen to me. Sanggup dia u-turn to ask if he could get to know me. But..eck i turned him down flat, i can feel his hope shattered right there. I said no thank u, i'm engaged, showed my bling and walked away. While in the cab moments later, i was thinkin..gosh he must have thot i'm such an arrogant bitch or somethin..eeps!! Thank u for the compliment eh Mat Cisco, i should have been more polite but sorry, i was too shocked to think of somethin nice to say at the same time i dun wanna give a wrong idea.

So much for bein a Hawaiian Nite, much performances were very hmm Asian-inspired. Was mindin my food, had lil chats with Iyuan n laughin at the antics of people on the stage when the MC went around the floor lookin for best dressed women nominations. Was very happy and cheered on Lina, one of the gals I noe from the company who shared the same table with me when she was picked out by the MC but then the next thing I noe, I was also picked for best dressed candidate. EHH?? there were like 6 or 7 of us and we had to go on stage & claim our prize by dancing..to Wondergirls' Nobody. Alamakkk!! tis has never happened to me before la & puttin me in the spotlight like that after soo long of not bein on stage or dancin, my heart was in my mouth.Gedebak gedebuk man! And Iyuan came up front row to capture pics/vids..lagi Stress! Felt so freaky, anyhow whack...i didn't win..hahah! But Lina won! Deservingly...congrats!

Weird la...is there somethin different abt my look lately? Is it the  "darah manis" symptom of a bride-to-be? Hmmm...

Anyways week end is here again! Enjoy it!

CHEERS~

French Women

STAY SLIM & FIT!
French women see exertion as an integral part of the day. I encourage you to look at everyday movement (what you do in street clothes, not spandex) as essential to your overall wellness, and not to see exertion as something assigned to the gym. Here are a few French tips on how to stay fit without ever setting foot in la gym.

1.) Don’t save your steps, multiply them! Instead of driving your car around in circles to find a close spot, purposefully park far away and walk the couple extra feet. Do you know burning a mere 50 extra calories a day equates to five pounds a year?! Burn those calories creatively!

2.) Incorporate simple resistance movements into your daily routine. Use your own body weight as resistance wherever possible. Isometric exercises, discreet but effective, are very French. This can be done before you even leave the house in the morning. For example, while waiting in traffic or on the subway, contract your abs for 12 seconds with your back pressed against the seat (it’s better for you than road rage). When reading a magazine at home, try sitting on the floor with your legs stretched and apart in a V and your hands on each side; this is a great stretch for your inner thigh muscles.

3.) Take care of your core. I’m a firm believer that we need to attend to our abdominals as we age. These are the muscles that hold all our vital organs in place; they support good posture and a healthy spine, something we must take care of as we get older. Do a few sit-ups as part of a little stretch/exercise/yoga routine in the morning — it’s never too early or too late to start this ritual.

4.) Acquaint yourself with small to moderate free weights (3-5 lbs.), especially if you’re over 40. A bit of extremely simple resistance training is an antidote to hours spent on gym machines. Short but focused movement with small weights is a good way to preserve upper body tone and bone density and supplement the cardiovascular benefits of an active lifestyle. A little goes a long way, and that only increases the older you get, so don’t let extremism overtake you.

5.) Get en vélo. Americans tend to see bicycling as recreation, and often either as a child’s pastime or a hobby for only the most serious triathletes. But French and European women see cycling as a mode of transportation.

6.) Yoga.If there was ever a fountain of youth, it might be the practice of yoga. Not only does it reduce stress, improve your posture and help to develop longer, leaner limbs, it also speeds up your metabolism, works nearly every muscle group and promotes an overall bodily wellness that no other sport or class can compete with.

Most women can find 20-30 minutes a day to practice if they make it a priority. No equipment necessary.

7.) Vive l’escalier! Taking the stairs whenever possible. In France, walking up and down stairs is a perfunctory part of our day. We rarely spend an hour stair climbing, but you should know that climbing stairs burns a stunning 1100 calories per hour. Climbing a couple flights a day will surely go a long way. A few times a week I choose to walk up the 15 flights of stairs to my apartment for some healthy fun!

In the end, remember that those who overexert themselves inevitably burn out, but those who know how to stay fit while enjoying life come out ahead, mentally and physically.

SLEEP WELL!
It’s barely 11 o’clock PM, yet most of the lights are off. For one thing, the French don’t watch much television (no staying up for Conan O’Brien or Dave Letterman’s monologue). They come home from work, prepare dinner, sit down to eat (that’s entertainment!) and relax. Some may prolong the evening reading or listening to music for half an hour, but by ten or 11 o’clock most of them are au dodo. No late-night e-mailing or typing away at the computer. How different that is from New York, the city that never sleeps. From our Manhattan windows we see plenty of lights and people in buildings all around us until the wee hours. That the French spend more than two hours each day eating is another contrast with America. Eating is one of the great pleasures in life, after all. Kitchen or bedroom? For the French it’s a toss-up, according to the latest survey.

Ten tips!

1. Move, move, move during the day! Studies have proven that exercise, in addition to burning calories, makes it easier to fall and stay asleep. No need to run a marathon or spend hours sweating; a 20- to 30-minute brisk walk or yoga will do the trick. (Just be careful not to do it too close to bedtime — this will actually have the opposite effect!)

2. Stay away from stimulants, such as caffeine and nicotine and alcohol. All three substances make us jittery, interrupt our quality of sleep and our ability to fall asleep. Many people who rely on caffeine to get them through the day are shocked to learn that it can have a stimulating effect for up to 12 hours after they’ve imbibed.

3. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Our bodies crave balance and if we train our body to fall asleep at a certain time and wake up at a certain time (even if we’re still sleepy), it will eventually listen to our requests.

4. Reserve the bedroom for sleeping only. This may seem silly, but watching TV, balancing a checkbook, doing paperwork or simply lounging in bed can cause problems when it’s time to actually fall asleep.

5. Herbal teas work magic. Chamomile, anise, valerian and fennel-blend teas are known to help relax and make sleep come easier. Most health -food stores have their own specialty blends as well.

6. Turn off the lights earlier. Lights signal to our brain that it’s daytime and can interfere with our bodies’ ability to wind down for sleep.

7. Turn off the computer and TV at least a half hour, but preferably an hour, before bedtime. Both tend to keep our mind active, the last thing we want before bedtime.

8. If you can’t sleep for a full half hour, get up and read a book or listen to soothing music for a little while. Staying in bed will only make you more restless.

9. Avoid having a very large meal before bedtime. Have your dinner at least two-to-three hours before you plan on going to sleep.

10. Create an environment that is conducive to sleep with a bedroom that’s totally dark, well ventilated and cool. If you don’t have curtains that shade the light, try a sleeping mask. If you live on a busy street, try a fan or a "white noise" machine.

And remember: a bad night’s rest means a short temper, short attention span, more stress and, for women especially, a greater risk of heart disease.

Bon soir, mes amis!

Style Rookie

Was abt to check my email when tis news abt a 13 year old caught my eyes!
Dorky gal with grandma glasses but her grin was all that of a child! It was reported that she was a fashion blogger...she must be BIG to be THAT recognised to attend the New York Fashion Week event so i had to go to her blog and oh my.....such an adorable mak nenek!!
She reminds me of my future sister-in-law with her humour & oh i so wanna die in excitement kinda blogging style. Tis kiddo travels places, skippin school to hang out with the coolest fashion people! Wow!! And and...i bet, in a few years' time she's gonna blossom to become Hotter than Avril lavigne & Scarlett Johanson!!

While lookin thru her stuff, one thing came into my mind....Soo perfect for Hafiz HALFTANK!! So witty, so confident & she seems to be havin fun makin fun of herself!
And man, tis so beats his Macarena ass...look! (vid didn't get embedded but click on it anyway, it'll pop up in another window)

Sophistication 101 from Tavi G on Vimeo.

Tavi Gevinson...she steals my heart!! Her comments in her June 12th's entry made me grin. It said "...I've said it before that sleek and chic doesn't really interest me because it can usually translate to boring..." Why? Why isn't she born my twin sister?? we can so play dress up & go to flea market & take crazy pictures together!! Gerammm k?!

*photos grabbed from her blog w/o her permission! hope she doesn't sue me!*

But then again, when i was younger i had no fashion sense(nor have i now! hah) but i think my sentiment towards not dressin chic & sleek & not bein oh-so-fashionable came wayyy younger. i guess the pic below expressed it all...i'm a tee & jeans tough chick with a devil may care attitude by and by! Also,Iyuan wouldn't even want to come near me at all if i had dressed up like the Mak Nenek then! And not now either...hurhur.

Last kopek

Rain comes peltering down the railings outside, creating clanging rhythms...could tis be one last shower of blessings in this month of Ramadhan?

Tonite we'll hear the Takbir, another beautiful form of rhythm, with it comes serenity and a new month shall begin. Ramadhan will be gone, along with the abundance of blessings & mercy it brought along for the past month. This month has been full of ups & downs & in perseverance, we are able to tide things through and perhaps overcome our weaknesses which in other times, we are not able to pull off.

Alhamdulillah, for all the blessings that comes with every challenge
Alhamdulillah, for the opportunities to increase worship & wider doorways to charitable deeds
Alhamdulillah, for goodness all around despite the madness happening around

As Eid dawns ever nearer, may all our deeds be blessed by God & that inner peace be attained by all, through forgiveness & bonding. May relationship ties be strengthened, may sins & wrongdoings be forgiven, may we keep steadfast in every act of worship & may more rezki & barakah come our way....insya Allah!

I take this opportunity to wish every Muslim...Congratulations for every perseverance & patience that have been exercised throughout Ramadhan!
Have a Blessed Eid, minal aidin wal faidzin

may we see Ramadhan again next year...hopefully with a new role for me, to buck up to & be a better Muslimah! lookin forward to that...WooHoo!!

Happy Long Week End everyone~

Halfway through

Masya Allah...how time flies!
We are into halfway through Ramadhan now...how fast! how fast!
Ezsra commented that when we were young it felt like Ramadhan seems pretty long, i agree! Now it seems like we are fighting against time to put together our ibadah & all other activities in life in general. Ooo everyday seems like a rush...

So far, Ramadhan has been good for me with lil changes takin place here n there. Alhamdulillah for all that have been goin good in my life & hopefully the lives of many others around me despite the every day's lil struggles.

Tonite I received a sad news, that my cousin's paternal cousin has passed away. A considerably young man by the name of Rizal...Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. May his passing in Ramadhan be good for his soul and may Allah grace His mercy on the loved ones he left behind.

I shudder for awhile thinkin how so easily our souls will juz get plucked away...Will I get to meet next Ramadhan, this joyous month of blessings & mercy? I could only pray for that.

As for now, as tis blessed month will soon pass us by...let us keep on seeking for God's forgiveness & keep on cleansing our tainted souls. Here's a lil exercise: Easy peasy

اللهم اغفر ذنوبي يا رب العالمين

Allahum maghfir dzunubi ya rabbal ‘aalamien

O Allah forgive my sins O The Lord of the universe

Oh btw, Happy Birthday Mr Fyz, belated Happy Birthday cuzzin Sitz & Yati & advanced Happy Birthday to the many September babies in my contacts as well!

Maksud singkatan ' A'kum'

http://dbaieyouth.multiply.com/journal/item/7/Maksud_singkatan_Akum
Ok i'm not exactly sure if tis is true as i don't know Hebrew and when i try to google it up, most sites lead to Malay-Muslim owned blogs spreadin the same message but to be safe, let's not use the abbreviation to greet each other. Salam or the actual long form,Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, would definitely bring proper blessings to us. If it's true, then it's seriously tragic if we keep greeting each other as Slaves to Animals & Misguided people! Eeks!

Anyone who came across this article & knows Hebrew, pls define the meaning of Avde Kokhavim U Mazzalot. much thanx!

The Prohibited Pork

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
My colleagues recently asked me why consuming Pork is Prohibited by Islam, I cannot quote or lift anything off the Quran for reasons. Aside from being told that pigs are hosts to parasites & are dirty in the sense they are scavengers, I do not know how else to explain. I stumbled upon this vid tonite, by a Christian pastor Mr Joel Osteen, perhaps he has some answers,as well as Dr Zakir Naik, who explains a lil bit more details on the parasites in pigs.

Well, whatever the reason may be...Wallahu a'lam(God knows best), and as Muslims, since we believe that God only choose the best for His faithful servants, it is best that we comply to what he forbids.

Subhanallah!

Makan Makan before Ramadhan

Makan makan dates before the fasting month starts!

It was a Friday nite double date@Fika Swedish Cafe & Bistro with Yanni & Azmi. Had a great time listenin to their Greek honeymoon experiences & browsin their pics before our swedish meatballs, hash & grilled salmon arrived! Sure did fired up my infatuation with that ancient land again! Even Iyuan was charmed by Santorini & Mykonos!

Next up...a belated birthday celebration for Mr Man Bitch at the Grand Strait restaurant & a chill out session at Old Town Coffee in JB. Glad that I could catch up with my lesbos & the lads...good food & good company makes cranky Sophie...happy!

Thank u for a lovely week end my dears :)

It was worth it while it lasted

I couldn't agree more with Dee.

It pains to see people fall out especially knowing that things actually could have been mended by a simple thing called COMMUNICATION. I think this is by far, the most important thing in any relationship. The loss of such leads to no trust, no love & what was once somethin beautifully lively & inspiring end up becomin somethin so painful to swallow & to bear.

I may sound a tad harsh but i guess what is there left to hold on to when there is no room for an honest conversation between 2 persons, who despite caring for each other they just cannot communicate further? and what friendship can grow from toxic assumptions & hearin from naysayers without a need of understanding each other & tryin to see beyond each others' faults & weaknesses?

If only initiatives were put to good use. if only fear & self-interest were less of a hindrance. if only...nevertheless, que sera sera....

Tick tock tick tock!

Less than 3 months to the W-day! So far our preparations have been pretty good. The groom & bride-to-be have not had any major tiff in all decision-makings & that is perhaps one of the things to keep constant as the day draws ever nearer. Alhamdulillah!

It helps that in the past few weeks, friends got married & it somehow put me in the "bridezilla" mode, tagging the groom-to-be along in the "kawin kawin" mood as well!

First was Hafi & Ros surprise July wedding. She mentioned nothin abt it but asked for addresses & the next thing i know...kena saman! I remember Hafi questioned about what people think abt starting a relationship with a man like Ros in their early days of getting together but in the end i guess, all those doesn't matter & that love conquers all. I hope they'll have an everlasting & blissful marriage together.

Then my mentel gym kaki, Yanni, got married to her Mr Smiley, Azmi. Am honoured to be part of the solemnisation ceremony, as I have not known her for long but it's beautiful how a friendship could sprout over the past 6 months! Well it's not exactly a BFF kinda thing but it is a special somethin between 2 mentel & splurge/spree-prone girls :)

Hope u are havin fun there in Greece awak, come back soon & stay motivated to keep fit with me(despite the many not free days we have for workout)!*LoL*

As for us, we are happily putting together clothes for our photoshoot...trashing out concepts & venues (tho it won't take place till after the wedding & honeymoon), finally decided on our rings & Oh we simply cannot wait for the epitome of all these wedding shenanigans as we've put in 110% attention to it....our honeymoon escapade! Painstaking nites & days of research & i truuuuuulllly truuuuully hope ALL our plans go well!! But first, we gotta select our wedding clothes on Monday & get our wedding witnesses ready before booking our Kadi! yeah our preps are not done in perfect A-Z order, nevertheless, i am optimistic as ever & that the order doesn't matter. But Pray i shall always, that everything to fall in place as we go with the flow..

Ok weddings aside, i'd like to extend my warmest wishes to dearest Sue & Adam...congrats on the arrival of baby Idris Tay Zhong Xian!! May he grow up handsomely & be a filial & wonderful son to u!

And to my lovely homeland...Happy 44th National Day...i look forward to 2022h! I hope many will reflect & act on what is said in our pledge from here on as we Come Together as One People, One Nation, One Singapore!!

Seeing it her way....

I was told that Yasmin Ahmad had passed away. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un
She was such a beautiful commercial director and film-maker...I tear watching her ad "Family" and also her controversial film, "Muallaf".

I'm sure many Singapore citizens remember her "Funeral" ad that was meant for encouraging Marriage in our society, yes that beautifully imperfect ad...and  I've heard of how nice her other works too but simply watching these 2 works were enough to make me rethink life & refine my perspective, towards family as well as towards religious & racial harmony.

She reminds me of good ol times with my late father in "Family"...how i used to spend time with him during school holidays when my mum was at work. Well i ain't such a spoilt brat like the girl in the ad, but yeah it reminds me of how i was loved....

In "Muallaf", despite being banned or labeled as blasphemous because a couple of cast were Muslims & they were being seen citing from other religious books & one of them were even shaven bald(which is not lawful for a muslim woman), the essence of the movie was so so deep & moving. Knowledge, forgiveness & more importantly, not judging others & learning of truths were some things that hit me right smack in the chord.

Took tis off her blog page:
Some Singaporeans on facebook have been discussing "Muallaf" and the numbers Rohana cited, every time the poor girl got a little upset. This, to me, is exciting beyond belief.

Just a month ago, a lovely Japanese young lady named Sawaka watched "Muallaf" in Tokyo. Soon after, she emailed me and said, "I myself am a pseudo Catholic, but watching the movie made me want to read the Koran." I told her to look up quranexplorer.com and she thanked me for the website address.

Much as I would prefer that viewers who are curious about Rohani's numbers would actually pick up a copy of the Holy Quran with translations to find out what the verses were saying, I do realise that it is hard to remember the numbers and the scenes they appeared in.

So here then are two scenes where Rohani cited some numbers, which chapters those numbers came from, and the verses themselves translated into English.

After Mrs. Siva's caning episode, Brian drove Rohana home. Along the way, he said to Rohana, “You won’t have to worry about Mrs. Siva for a while. I think she’ll probably get suspended. And if your sister decides to press charges, she’ll be out for good.” To which Rohana replied, “One hundred and eight, three.”

In the Holy Quran, chapter 108 is entitled “Al-Kauthar”, and line 3 translates to “For he who hateth thee, he will be cut off from future hope.”

In the scene where Brian and Brother Anthony visited the girls in their hideout home, Brian confronted the girls by saying, “Don’t worry, we won’t let on, but you girls ran away from home, didn’t you?” To which Rohani replied, “I wouldn’t call it running away… just running to safety.” Then, Rohana interrupted the conversation by muttering “Sixteen, Forty-one” under her breath.

Chapter 16 is entitled “An-Nahl”, and verse 41 reads, “To those who leave their homes in the cause of Allah, after suffering oppression, We will assuredly give a goodly home in this world: but truly the reward of the Hereafter will be greater. If they only knew!”

For those who have plans to watch the film soon, it might be fun to bring along a little note book, or maybe even just a pen and a piece of paper, on which to jot down Rohani's mysterious numbers. Then when you get home, you can look up their meaning at quranexplorer.com to check their relevance to the scenes in which they appeared.

One movie reviewer in Singapore told me that after watching "Muallaf", he went home to his mother, gave her a hug, and asked her to forgive him for all the times he had hurt her feelings. I remember thinking to myself, "Even if the whole world now hates this film, I shall be eternally grateful, just for that one act of love and reconciliation."

How perfect God is.

I was hoping for more films from her...but i guess, she's another soul gone too soon....
For bringin such warm fuzzy feelings, for remindin us the values of Unconditional Love, Forgiveness & that religion is something that could actually bridge people instead of sowing discords, i pray...may she rest in Peace...

Pardon my emo mood, but truly...cherish ur family & especially those who love u like u r their family too...

Wow that's new news!

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21, 2009 (AFP) - - A religious court in Malaysia has sentenced a tearful Singaporean Muslim model to six strokes of the cane after she drank beer in a nightclub, reports said Tuesday.

Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, 32, pleaded guilty to consuming alcohol at a hotel nightclub in the eastern state of Pahang last year, the New Straits Times newspaper reported.

"We feel the sentence is fair after going through the prosecution's argument and since the rotan (cane) is provided for in the law," Pahang Sharia High Court judge Abdul Rahman Yunus said, according to the paper.

"The rotan is aimed at making the accused repent and serves as a lesson to Muslims," he added, also fining Kartika 5,000 ringgit (1,412 dollars).

The model, who cried when the judgement was delivered, said she would appeal.

State religious officials could not be reached for comment on the case.

Malaysia, which has large Indian and Chinese minorities freely enjoying alcohol, has a two-track legal system. Civil courts operate alongside state-based sharia courts, which can try Muslims for religious offences.

A gentle reminder

How nature always inspire...

yes it slipped my attention that my lime plant is again invaded by caterpillars...4 icky ones! I really have such a great compulsion to rid them but somethin held me back. Lookin at one of em changin form, about to develop into a cocoon stage, I am reminded of my own situation.

It is really frustratin tryin to be a good mummy's girl stayin home after work, especially turning down dear ones' requests to meet & catch up. I miss hangin out & it really breaks my heart everytime I have to turn down someone!

But i guess some things in life have to take priority. After much consideration, I thot...when else can i be a better daughter? After i get married? I'm not so sure & i'm pretty sure She is not countin on that either...cos my focus would then be more for the husband & Not her, even if we live under the same roof. Tis is really tough but tis is what lil sacrifice I have to make, to keep the one i call Mother, happy or at ease or perhaps a lil less Lonely. Right now she needs my attention & most definitely my help especially to prepare ourselves for our rooms switching before November.

I'm really really hopin for a tad bit more patience & determination goin thru tis period of pre-wedding preparations, in whatever form it might be. To some, 4 months might seem a long time but in terms of weeks & days, there's not too many...I really hope I will make my mum think a lil better of me & that she will not be losing her only child, her precious daughter...me

Monday 15 June 2009

It hasn't been like tis for a long time!

Well hello hello!

Nice to finally have the time & inspiration to type in an entry today! yeaps i am all good & tired & most of all, HAPPY! week end was bustling & man, i feel alive!!

Lately everyone around me including myself have been pretty much gettin ourselves caught up in our own serious business. Marriage, Housing, School, Work & Pregnancy are some things that suddenly take a toll in our lil lives & i found myself reminiscin good ol carefree days when we first start to hit off on tis socialisin circle in Multiply.

Responsibilities now take priority & i guess right now, most of us are pretty much rollin along in the present, drawin lessons from the past & simply gettin on with life. Me, i'm pretty much caught up with Facebook's Restaurant City & Mafia Wars when i'm free. no brainer games, juz somethin a tad addictive to wind down to.

Nevertheless amidst all those serious stuff, tis week end totally came in like a pleasant breeze that made me feel a lot chirpier & sunnier! I shared the wedding blisses of 2 gurls whom I got really close with during my last year in my tertiary studies.

Dearest Dee, my sidekick in Uni till tis day...am glad to have been able to attend both the solemnisation & wedding reception...everythin went smoothly & beautifully like how we prayed it to be. I had major fun teasing both the bride & groom who looked so serious durin the solemnisation and Palang(blocking) the groom before he greeted his bride at the reception. *LoL* the girls & I earned $12 for our lil fusion of poem-pantun! i think we stunned the best man abit there...not bad for my first time! Next...i shall aim to do the same at my cuzzin's weddin in October! Hahaha!! *winks at Liz & Sitz*

Dearest Suhaila...my sidekick in Polytechnic days. Tis gal is full of secrecy & she has been in Canada for the longest time. Finally back early tis June, in time to invite the Biotech bunch to her wedding & at the end of the month, she'll be off to Canada again. And it is a lovely that she marries the dude whom she was seein since Poly days...who said Long Distance love is not possible? over Long period of time summore! So glad to see her all smiles when Iyuan & I getta see her almost towards the end of the reception...tho I wished I was able to join the rest of the Biotech gang earlier...oh wells...

Wedding galores aside, since i was in a reminiscin mode for the past few days...it was really a good timing that The Pinholes was performin at the Esplanade on Saturday...I was actually missin Saturday evenings catchin free performances there & there they were. it sure felt good listenin some kick ass ROCK & ROLL made in SINGAPURA lah!!

WoOoOts thank u for liftin up my spirit, The Pinholes & their tarakucha posse, The Friday Sisters!! I luuurrve the performance despite the hardly responsive audience (besides the 2 uncles who were clearly the only ones not comatosing), as usual...the not boring but segan audience ok, if we are boring we won't even be at the Esplanade to support groovy music..chet! Hahah!

Ahh & yes, mesye & i threw off our consideration for Sealy & Simmons & put our mattress hunting case to rest. Tis one's juz as comfy & it was a deal too good to give a miss. No more countin sheeps the rep said...We sure hope it's true!

Enjoy the rest of the week & the rest of my birthday month people!!
Oh & here's a lil vid of a song i'm currently addicted to from The Pinholes,take a listen...ling-a-ling-aling-a-ling-a-ling~~~

Ball of a time!

Weekend went too quickly, i haven't had enuff time to recover & now i'm all sore & achy! Fun times always fly by too quickly but nevertheless the causes for such aftermaths were Worthwhile!

Started Saturday in the driver's seat, I moved a car for the first time!! heehee!!
For those who noe how resistant I was towards learning to drive...SURPRISE!! heh well i need to change along with the situation, i think it is abt time. Psst pls promise me, no one should leak/speak anythin abt my driving lessons to/in front of my Mum...cos I wanna surprise her when the day for me to take her for a ride comes! so shhh okie? PROMISE? but do pray that i'll do well & hopefully, with ur prayers...i can pass with juz 1 driving test?? hehe...oh well, we'll see how things go :)

Then headed down to The Cage at Kallang for Couples' Soccer!
I ran, tickled, tackled, teased my way to get my ball...only to form some kinda resentment from Liz's Mr Policeman who called me Mak Nenek for being all over the place!! Eh i'm like Park Ji Sung what...very hardworking player u noe! *LoL* But yes end up dead tired, i think it wasn't really the soccer that wore me out, rather, it was all the Laughing involved during the games that did it! We were such a looney bunch & boy was it FUN!! Thank u Raf & Fyz for organising & tagging us for such a healthy fun time! Liz requested for us to do tis Monthly!

A FINE dinner
Towards the end of the soccer session, we were surprised by Dee & Man's appearance at the Cage. They decided to join us & drop their Saman literally on Liz's & Mr Fyz's vehicles! Yeay!! We are Honoured to be the first to be invited to their wedding!! THANK YOU!! Catchin up over dinner & yoghurt was really lovely..it's been awhile huh since we hang out together, esp. with our partners ard...so Saturday evenin was really great to me!

and a FINER ball game!
5-2...but i managed to stay awake only till 4-2...super tired, fell asleep all the way till mornin when i juz meant to take a lil 5-seconds shut eye. heh. pls have more fighting spirit like tis for the rest of the season...pls pls?

Good mornin Darlin, it's Subuh
LoL i wish my Mum woke me up in such a nice tone...i woke up stunned & achy & the marriage prep class starts at 9am!

Boring? Oh that's Bullshit!
Impressive & Motivating! that's what I'd say abt the 2-sessions marriage prep class by Suchi Success. Session 2 was a tad mellow & more serious as compared to Session 1, which got me laughin till my tummy ache & eyes water watchin the antics of Mr Khair the trainer. I absolutely love its holistic approach of marrying secular & Islamic perspective of Life, Love & Marriage into their teaching materials, opening our eyes & minds towards marriage life as a contemporary Muslim. I especially love how the session began with Mr Khair mentioning as muslims,we are involved in Hablum minallah (relationship with God) wa(and) Hablum minnannas(relationship with fellow Man) & that Marriage is a form of Ibadat(worship to God) & Marriage is all about maintaining Relationship. i hope these words will stick to my head cos it has become such a norm for the community to focus too much on the things "for show" for the wedding rather than emphasising it as a form of worship & workin on the finer definition of Marriage. A few times i fell in the same frame as how the community moulds the whole wedding ting-a-ling and i get kinda upset by lil lil things, but Alhamdulillah, my aunt Always reminds me that i should begin a new life with the best of beginnings, one that is blessed by God rather than one that serves only our own desires! Thank u, my Assistant Mak Pengantin! The course also serves as a refresher to me & as well as a guide to prepare us*duh* to perhaps build a future together as ONE & keep that love goin on ...for the right reasons. The course also ended quite beautifully, putting more confidence & a gentle smile on my face & nothing but every praise to God for how thankful i am to be in this, together with Iyuan. I know struggles & challenges await us in future, very near future, but with God on our side, we shall overcome & struggle on Together...hand in hand, hug in hug okie Mesye? :)

Bowled Over!
Just when i thought i could get home early & lie on my cosy bed or get on Mafia Wars, Raf called & suggested to go bowling after our course. And so we did...and i scored a Turkey! HAH! I've IMPROVED!! no matter how many times Iyuan taught me how to aim or throw the ball proper, i hardly got myself more than 2 strikes back to back but VOILA, a TURKEY! I conclude it must be Bowling Buddies that improved me!! hahaha!

K.O.
thought i'd juz lie in bed to rest while waitin for Iyuan to reach his home after the bowling session ended...3 seconds later...i drifted to sleep till morning AGAIN!! and it's MONDAY! hello! week end's over...GET UP & WORK!!

Boooooo!

And now...it's bed time again & the next thing i'l realise is HELLO TUESDAY!

Oh dear...

Alrite, my blab quota's up, time to rest now....Have good week ahead everyone!

The Math of Wonderland...

Alhamdulillah!

Tonite I smile in reflection. 5 more days & it will be 2 years since he left me & mum but it's amazing how he still make me get out of my comfort zone & push boundaries. I remember, one of the first things he made me do while i was juz a young child was to order food myself. I don't like it..I don't like to open my mouth to food sellers(except at fast food where there's proper queue) with the mentality that adults always don't take notice of children & priorities other adults' orders first! I'd always try to buy time hopin he'll give in but No, if i don't order the food on my own, no food will be served. He won't budge and he will be eatin his own while i stare & contemplate & finally decide to wise up before i go hungry. I use to feel resentful & some times feel unloved...i'm juz a child!

And he used to stack a whole bunch of assessment books for me to practise Maths. Now, he made me stare at & calculate figures on paper & internet & do lotsa enquiries over things I have zero knowledge or rather not associate myself with. oh how i do not like calculating & seeing numbers & making queries sounding like a total bimbo yet once again, i have to face the challenges. At times i really feel like throwin everythin away & juz don't care but i noe i have to be responsible & do what is right & be an Adult.

Some times it feels like i crawled too far in the rabbit's hole, feeling lost, grabbling & fumbling abt in the darkness on my own but i'm really glad that i have an ever supportive hunny bunny who'd give me an "enery pack" to boost myself through the journey, an ever disciplined mummy who would push me on, a patient bunch of aunts & uncles who would await me to emerge from that dark hole & most of all, i am ever thankful that the Lord has always shone me Light to find my way out, out of the difficult path.

So here i am today, smiling & knowing that my father has left me some Wealth.
A wealth of gumption & guts & sweet faith for my survival.
And a Legacy..a legacy of his undying spirit to push boundaries & acquiring knowledge.

Thank u Abah & Thank u dear Lord...

Batik & Flea-tique

The agenda for the nite was to hit the nite flea market held at the Singapore Art Museum but we ended up spendin much time engaged in artsy exploration, thanx to a Batik Workshop held there, thanks to my cuzzin Sitz who insisted she wanted to try it hands-on. So we all had our batik fun!

What's most pleasantly surprisin is the workshop instructor was actually my ex-MCSS mate, Dino Hafian. Never knew him as an artsy person but through a twist of fate, he is now a batik artist! Major surprise as i always remember him like an "Adventure" dude, nevertheless, we had fun & it was really nice gettin reacquinted again.

Like Sadiq said, I'm actuallly kinda proud that people from my school mostly didn't turn out so bad since it was one of the most notorious or non-credited school in Singapore.

We did end up at the flea market & i got away with 2 tops & 2 cutie hairclips for less than $50! Yeay!

John & Mandy's Wedding Banquet

After abt two years since their ROM ceremony at Cafe Del Mar, John & Mandy went through the Chinese customary wedding ritual & threw us a banquet at the M Hotel. I very much enjoy the video & photo montage they had prepared for us guests & of course, catchin up with secondary school mates. Older but some things remain the same!

Congrats John & Mandy!
