Questionin My Soul

You Are a Prophet Soul

You are a gentle soul, with good intentions toward everyone.

Selfless and kind, you have great faith in people.

Sometimes this faith can lead to disappointment in the long run.

No matter what, you deal with everything in a calm and balanced way.

You are a good interpreter, very sensitive, intuitive, caring, and gentle.

Concerned about the world, you are good at predicting people's feelings.

A seeker of wisdom, you are a life long learner looking for purpose and meaning.

You are a great thinker and communicator, but not necessarily a doer.

Souls you are most compatible with: Bright Star Soul and Dreaming Soul

Gentle?! Who has seen the gentle side of me around here??

VERY Sensitive? XXX

But i can't deny that Prophet Muhammad's (s.a.w.) ways had always inspired me...

Six Species of Interviewers

Somethin that might be useful for jobseekers like me.

Taken from www.monster.com.sg

The Six Species of Interviewers

Adapted from the new book, Monster Careers: Interviewing
by Doug Hardy

Over the years, I've noticed that people who interview job candidates tend to develop a distinct personal style. If you can quickly read an interviewer's style and establish rapport, you will appear more confident and knowledgeable. Here are six common types to know:

The Absentee

His Style: Sometimes an interviewer isn't mentally in the room. Maybe his boss dropped a big project on him earlier that day, or maybe he's completely unprepared.

Your Best Approach: It's almost impossible to make a strong impression on someone so distracted, so keep it simple. If this person is strapped for time, offer to reschedule. Get your most important message across, and then focus more time on your interview follow-up.

The Buddy

His Style: Smiles, jokes, and tells you to relax: "Hey, let's go shoot some pool and talk about the job." There are actually two forms of Buddy I know: inept interviewers who just want to be liked, and expert ones who realize that putting you at ease can get you to reveal a lot of information you might otherwise not mention, like your salary range.

Your Best Approach: Be friendly in kind, but don't be lulled into completely letting your guard down.

The Inquisitor

His Style: Never cracks a smile or diverts from a "show me" attitude. Fires off tough questions about your experience. This is the interviewer you imagine when you say, "I hate to interview."

Your Best Approach: Stay cool, and project respect and confidence. Don't think the tough, poker-faced attitude means you won't get the job. Often, the Inquisitor believes a stressful interview unearths a candidate's hidden qualities. It's also important to remember that the Inquisitor can often become your best advocate throughout the interview process and on into the job.

The Laser Beam

His Style: This interviewer focuses on one topic, such as a sales job's quota. The Laser Beam is a common style for a line manager.

Your Best Approach: Satisfy his judgment, and move on. Save your wide-ranging questions for the HR department.

The Shotgun

His Style: Fires questions all over the place. One minute you're talking about sales quotas, and the next you're discussing company politics. The challenge is that the subjects don't seem connected, and you have no idea how the interviewer is judging you.

Your Best Approach: This is where your careful presentation really pays off, because you can relate your strengths to many different aspects of the job.

The Silver Bullet

His Style: Believes there's one magic question to ask -- and one magic response that determines whether you're right for the job. The Silver Bullet asks a few perfunctory questions about your skills, then leans back as he says, "Tell me, how do you tie your shoes?" or "If you could have dinner with three people, who would they be?" From your answer, the Silver Bullet decides yes or no.

Your Best Approach: Answer simply, and move on.

Tailor Your Approach to the Interviewer

You step into a position of power when you recognize the interviewer's style and adjust your approach accordingly. As you prepare for the interview, ask yourself, "How might my answers be different for different interview styles?"

With a Laser Beam, for example, you might offer him a choice when you begin answering a question ("Would you like to talk about this aspect of the job or that one?"). An achievement story for a Buddy might focus more on your teamwork skills, and the same story for an Inquisitor might begin by stating the results of your individual work. The more you show your emotional intelligence by understanding the interviewer's objective for that interview, the more likely he'll be to listen to you.

Good Luck!

The Cracks in my Inner Mirror

What do u noe....another Saturday is here. Another stay in Saturday, to work on report. 5 down, my mates, and 10 more to go. Past 2 reports have been pretty much a breeze compared to what's gonna be dealt with in these next few days. Yes yes, the bloody chemistry prac reports!

Earlier today, a friend and I decided to check out a Kickboxin workshop at MDIS gym, since it's their Open House but the instructor didn't turn up! For that, we got free acces to the gym and attended the Yoga workshop instead! Whooopey~~~

It's been a long while since I did any yoga, the last time I remember, was to torture the bellydance babes with the Plank, Cobra poses and all that's in the Sun Salutation...haa so today's session was rejuvenatin! Luv the good stretchin n focusin! Learnt a new pose that's quite challengin, i didn't really get the name of the pose but it starts with a squat position, and i have to place my hands in front of me and support my thigh as i move my chest forward, eventually i need to lift BOTH my feet off the ground and balance juz usin my hands! I felt like a crouchin frog, and i can only stay in the pose for like 1 freakin second! The instructor cautioned me to go sellloowwlyyy...hee i'm juz too impatient! i'll have to try again n be more focused! heheh! see my friend did it!

Caught performances too at the canteen...ooo i didnt realise we've got quite a handful of Hip Hoppers...not bad at all, i especially enjoyed the performances by tis group called LUSH (in 2nd dance pic)! Nice!

Ahh yes, caught up with Hafi & Dee last nite after handin up our reports. Ended up in Vivo, havin dinner at Banquet and then followed by a rewardin Ben & Jerry's ice-cream treat for ourselves. LoL Hafi wanted all the Aussie juice n finally she got it..yeah yeah...bitch bitch all the dramas that were still left in our heads..hah it's almost a month since we came back, but lotsa memories are so close in our hearts. I also decided to share with them abt this "First Impression" workshop I attented a couple of days back.

I must thank my dance company for arrangin such, cos honestly i'm really uncultured in the social department...gee i can't even tell what the hell is the difference between Casual Pants & Business pants for guys, cos i see them both as BLACK (the examples shown in demo)! Good Lord, thank u for the workshop...really really educational for me! I didn't realise that Image is really critical, i mean...for me, i dun give a shit, i wear what i feel like i wanna wear but yeah unfortunately, image plays a big role in creatin impressions, and for people like me who do not like make-up, it is Not good in a work setting, cos people have the impression that u r new/a fresh blood in the company/business, or juz simply no one with authority. Such is people & bias that we tend to perceive. Haiyahh bloody leceh ah.make-up always do wonders: they create Illusions and don't people simply LUV to be DECEIVED?!!

Besides personal grooming and basic social etiquettes, the workshop also touched on Communication. We had a test on how to measure one's sensitivity..and Guess what, out of 3 my score was 0! The instructor said people like me are Insensitive and most times, we dun even realise sometimes we hurt others. Indeed indeed...i have to agree. Alot of times, it's been pointed out by my bf, my mum and a few close friends.... I am cold, I need to have more empathy, I dun think for other people's feeling, I'm too "fierce"...they all haunt me! And really tis side of me scares me esp. when the instructor asked "What if u have such good friends, but because of ur insensitivity, u lose those good friends?" those words keep ringin in my ears again n again n again...My inability to pick up little hints and people's body language can be really damagin not only for myself as well as relationships! Imagine I'm a mum next time, yet I cannot get through to my child? I cannot see n understand the little little signs he/she shows when sad, troubled or angry...or i dunno how to react to those things, I might juz end up lookin either ridiculous or hopeless! Gosh! I can't juz say I'm sorry right? There's somethin that needs to be done, to make me feel more, react better...and i hope, the next followin workshops (which i dunno when) will help me a lil bit more to overcome tis!

I feel so pathetic again over tis...it's like a black cloud lingerin over my head that doesn't really go away...Hmm to those of u, whom i have ever hurt throughout the time u have known me, and i seem to be unaware abt it, please tell me in the face! and i apologise for my insensitive nature... and i'm really Thankful that my loved ones never did really gave up on me...really REALLY i am...and also i am thankful that i found people who are really thoughtful n sensitive whom i can get inspired from and learn from in tis matter...without u, i'd probably do a worse self-damage than i already am!

And all the rats were left hungry...

that was the endin to a skit my group of students put up at the NEA auditorium today!

Silly me..at the thought of gettin some cash, i totally jumped onto Rafeeqah's offer as a facilitator for the past one and a half day for NEA, which collaborated with her company to promote "Anti-Littering campaign" as well as offerin students an acting skill workshop without givin much thought that i actually had to hand up one report yesterday! I only managed to have 1/3 of my report done on Sunday and i was gettin real panicky, but man...i've agreed and work i shall!

So yesterday, i went to the Environment Building at Newton and there I was in my "kakak opis" attire quipped with heels handlin student registration. Urghh so not me...work attire for me is always either jeans and t-shirt for lab, or sweat pants n t-shirt for dance classes...so ok i had to have a mind-set of an EDUCATOR, so i told myself..look compose and a lil serious, no jumpin abt. Right...

Somewhere ard 8.30 i was called by the boss to get on stage, i'll be the assistant to a MediaCorp artiste who will be givin a briefing on the campaign as well as the acting workshop. Great! Meanin, i juz have to act pretty n press "spacebar" (ehem feelin Vanna White like in Wheels of Fortune...assistant to celebrity also must get some attention what!) hahah! so in comes the students etc, and the stage was ready for Nick Shen.

And wow, he's such a polite guy! He kept askin the audiences to thank and clap for me for assistin him and also thank me personally after the presentation! i dun really noe how to react to people who keep sayin "thank u"s (i mean what the hell? i merely pressed "spacebar"??) so i smiled and curtsied to the audience and said "No worries, and U're welcome" lah to that Nick guy..Gosh, the only time i hear so many thank you from a person before were from those Ang Mohs in Holland Village when i was the cashier at a pharmacy years back.

The presentation was a breeze on both days and i kinda learn a lil bit more also abt acting. I'll remember this Chinese saying that Nick shared,

"Zhen kan, zhen ting, zhen gan shou"

meaning

"Really see (expressions, observe character, fellow actors, audience)

 Really Hear (fellow actors),

Really Feel (ur character, the situation, reaction to fellow actors)"

After the presentation, the students had to ACT and compete in groups to win trophies for their school as well as MacDonalds coupons! Tis is the fun bit! As a facilitator, tis is where i had my patience tested and i had to coordinate the students to get their roles, get props ready, learn scripts n rehearse...all in under 1h!! Crazy! so lil time! But it all went out pretty well!

My group got the top spot in the mornin session yesterday! YEAY! Very happy for them! I had to go with Blue team, a bunch of naughty primary school boys & chatty girls, i get the most loud mouth boy to become the Rat King, and my prop people were full of initiatives...and that was it! Lovely, they deserved it! The afternoon session went pretty so-so, cos the students opted to read from script instead of explorin their own expressions & creativity. Today's session was with a buncha Sec Sch students. After yesterday's failure of developin characters from almost all the groups tat chose a scripted scenario, i told the Sec Sch students we needed another plot. Came up with a lil idea and they took it in and they acted out real well but no luck tis time around tho cos the team led by Nick Shen had outstandin comic punches in their skit and teamwork was tight. The "Mats" from Shuqun Sec & Kent Ridge Sec blew it...Gerek abis! I was laughin so hard at how they introduced the different types of litterers and the way they act out the scenarios and corrective measures! They got trophies and Starbuck vouchers!

Hahah but overall, it was a really fun experience with lotsa creative works and spontaneity. And it's true wat i feel, u can always count on the naughty kids to bring out characters...esp. the malay ones!! So the pandai to wayang!! hahaha!! So much for the fun, i end up havin my report handed up at a record breakin time of 10.15pm last nite, rush like mad after the workshop yesterday!!! Madness!!!! but hah, i had fun...and money to pay off insurance at the end of the month! Wheeeeee~

Thank u Miss Rafeeqah for offerin me tis job!!

 that's me assistin!

THREE: altho i'm a bio student, i cannot stand seein exposed internal organs esp. (heart beating with some of those fats surroundin it!) bein cut up in operation on TV/Movie. therefore, i told my mum, i'm not cut out to be a doctor. Eeeee~

In Our Shoes

Sometimes u wonder
Why people are so bitchy
Why love is so selfish
Why there is so much pain

U can choose to stay pissed
Think it over some more
Or juz say "Fuck It All" in vain

But if u look beyond all the troubles the world bring
Life is still full of Cherries & Sweetness all over again

Relish the simple pleasures.
Cherish blissful moments.
Forgive dumb-ass buggers.
Open up ur Heart.
Let go.
Move along.
And cast a bright smile through the rain.
We'll get through it all Together.
Stronger! Bolder! Wiser!
