MUIS TO COLLECT SPECIAL HUMANITARIAN FUND FOR LEBANON

In view of the urgent need for humanitarian relief efforts to help the people of Lebanon, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) is announcing its effort to raise a special fund in support of the people of Lebanon. The fund will be collected at all 69 mosques in Singapore beginning today and during the Friday prayers on 4 August 2006. All mosques will be displaying a special collection box dedicated for this purpose. Donations can also be made by cheque addressed to "Muis" with the word "Humanitarian Aid For Lebanon" written on the reverse side of the cheque and sent to Muis at 273 Braddell Road, Singapore 579702. Contributions could also be made on-line starting tomorrow after 12.00pm through the Muis website at www.muis.gov.sg.

Muis will also be calling all mosques to recite a special "Prayer for Peace" during the Friday congregational prayers and after the five daily obligatory prayers. The text of this Prayer of Peace is also available on the Muis website. We would like to call upon Muslims and all Singaporeans to pray for the restoration of peace in the lives of those who have been ravaged by the cruelty of the bombings and devastations regardless of their faiths.

The Muslim community of Singapore and Muis are deeply disturbed by the tragedy and the alarming casualties in the conflict. We wish to express our anguish and sorrow at the loss of innocent lives of infants, children and families and we deplore the destruction of homes and properties.

We wish to appeal all parties to this conflict to work at ending all hostilities and to seek a durable peace.
