P.S.

Leigh Teabing: "My dear, until that moment in
history, Jesus was viewed by His followers as a mortal prophet...a great and
powerful man, but a man nonetheless. A mortal."

Sophie Neveu: "Not
the Son of God?"

Leigh Teabing: "Right. Jesus' establishment as 'the
Son of God' was officially proposed and voted on by the Council of Nicaea."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Leigh Teabing:
''One day he was human, the next, he was divine!''

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is pretty obvious that I caught the hyped-up movie "The Da Vinci Code". I remembered some months back, I asked Yan what is tis Da Vinci Code all abt, why is almost everyone around me seem to be readin the damn book?! So she told me, it's a conspiracy thingy that sort of evolves around the Holy Grail and the drawing of The Last Supper. So oh ok, since the movie is comin out sometime soon, hah as usual...i prefer to juz Watch rather than Read.

So there, I watched it on Saturday. To me it was pretty cool, I was not really concerned about what is the Holy Grail that they were hunting for, I was really intrigued by the codes and puzzles dished out in the movie. Ingenious! And i really pity Silas...poor guy really...so much faith but so so used and betrayed...*i pray to God that i will not be misled like that*

Anyways the phrases that i quoted above reminded me of queries i made sometime back to a Christian colleague abt Jesus alaihisalam(as). I asked questions because I was inquisitive and I wanted to have an understanding about the basic Christianity faith and by no mean, I was tryin to ridicule or put down my colleague's religion. I respect others and their choice of faith and I do not even have the slightest intention to confuse my colleague. Let me say that, for record's sake.

I used to flip a calendar with Bible verses, one for each day...it was put on the desk that I work at..so yeah, i read. Some were motivational and inspirin, alot of the verses had the same concept as the Quran (
love for God, urging to do good, to keep faith, promise of rewards for actions) but I got a lil confused when sometimes there were lines with the phrase "The Lord" and "He" because i noe, Christians believe that Jesus was Son of God and there is also God himself. So one day i decided to ask my colleague abt them.

Me: "Hey X, when the bible say The Lord, does it refer to God or Jesus?"
X: "Usually its God"
Me: "Oh ok..hmm u guys also believe in One God right?"
X : "Yeah"
Me: "How abt Jesus?"
X: "He is Son of God"
Me: "Emmm if u say Jesus is Son of God, then wouldn't it make him also a God??"
X: "It's different" -silence-
Me: -that prompted me to ask more questions but
decided to hold my tongue, in case i might say somethin blasphemous to his religion or i might juz cause a rift in our relationship-

I was brought up and given knowledge as a Muslim, and somehow we share the same view as that of Teabing abt Jesus. He is special to us too, a Messenger from God but he is Not divine. That's as far as the similarity goes. It was made known to me that Jesus' soul was lifted by God and he did not go through the crucifixition and that he will return to earth again near/before Doomsday to eliminate false beliefs upon him and lead people once again to the Truth & right path: Worshippin of One True God.

Anyways back to the Da Vinci Code thingy,  the objective of tis movie was somehow to prove that Jesus was a mortal, Suppose...one day through some scientific discoveries or miracles it showed so, how will the whole Christian community react?? I thought Hey they shouldn't despair cos at the back of my head came some of Abu Bakr's (Muhammad's best buddy) ra words when he was addressin the people who were in a state of sadness and total disbelief that prophet Muhammad saw had passed away...maybe it's applicable to them too!

"O people, verily whoever worshipped Muhammad, behold! Muhammad is indeed
dead. But whoever worships God, behold! God is alive and will never die."

"And Muhammad is but a Messenger. Many Messengers
have gone before him; if then he dies or is killed, will you turn back
upon your heels?
...."
[Ali Imran 3:144]

Juz my thoughts...i hope i did not offend any Christians or Muslims in this entry...

  7. hmm.... felt tt i shld sae sumthing... though i ain't those tt replies to entry... newae Jesus is sent by God physically in the new testament as a last way of "showing" ppl he's presence. Hw shld i put it... base on my understanding(anyone please correct me if i'm wrong) in the old testament tt's before the days of jesus. Ppl did nt believe tt there is a God even after alot of miracles happened. And to mst humans.... they wld only believe upon seeing.... therefore God sent he's son Jesus dwn to earth for ppl to experience him. Basically God, Jesus, Holy Spirit = 1 .....They are the same

Abt the Da Vinci Code... all i can sae is... pictures are drawn by humans... alot of stuff can be put in or even taken out... its basically up to each and every individuals to believe and it really depends on the faith level of everyone...

  10. ahh miss chong thank u for ur contribution and sharin abit abt ur faith...appreciate it!

i see another similarity again in our faiths cos we muslims also believe that it is God's way to show His Presence as well as His Power. In Islam, bringin Jesus to the world without havin his mum "seeded" by a man, it showed that whatever God will, will happen and Jesus is His miracle. Err but Jesus bein God's son, that's somethin that muslims reject cos we believe God created him and the Quran also states that there is only One God, He neither beget nor is He begotten. So i say, to each his own faith & religion but that does not mean we cannot listen and create an understandin of each other's beliefs rite?

ahh now that u mention it...the Trinity concept, it's been for the longest time that i have been pretty curious abt it. i have not had someone share with me proper how does God, Jesus and Holy Spirit =1. I don't even know what is the Holy Spirit although i keep hearin people say it represents God. maybe some day when we have less school work as our burden, u can share with me more abt it eh?

    Cheers~

  11. emmm in my limited knowledge abt Jesus...it's Virgin Mary (Maryam in the Quran) who gave birth to Jesus. and accordin to Wikipaedia which referred to the New Testament, Mary Magdalene was one of his most devoted disciple, so they are actually 2 different Marys! so technically, in the Da Vinci Code, he didn't marry THAT Mary but the other Mary!

    Abt Maryam, read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary,_the_mother_of_Jesus

Abt Mary Magdalene, read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Magdalene

hee btw thanx for the book offer, actually there's one in the lab now, a colleague brought in for another who seem pretty hesitant to watch the movie but at the same time also wantin to noe the hype. suppose to "entice" him but no effect, it doesn't seem to draw me out either :D

  12. There are 2 Mary's in the bible. One was Jesus's mother the other was Mary Magdalene whom Jesus saved. If you watched Passion of Christ, Monica Belluci, acted as Mary Magdalene. She's the Mary whom people identify as a prostitute and they tried to stone her to death. When Jesus saved her, she became his disciple as she was grateful to him. During Jesus cruxification, Mary Magdalene & Mary (Jesus's mom) were there to witness it. All this was shown in one movie - Passion of Christ.

One of my colleague's fren (who's a Christian) also thought that Mary Magdalene was Jesus's mother.

  13. i concur to what cww06 says:
as for the holy spirit, its the force that is in us that works in behalf of god. its the spirit of god in all of us.....

  14. Then which Mary does the drink "Bloody Mary" refer to?

  16. Just to side-track a bit, Mariam (a.s) virgin birth to Jesus (a.s) is just a prove of Allah's will and work. This is His world afterall so He can do what He wants to do. Besides that, if you see virgin birth in the context of the world today, it had been happening. People are trying to be god. They created cloning where women can give birth without conceiving. How about surrogacy where spems and eggs can be implanted to a woman, virgin or not and the baby can be carried to full term. Are we going to say that the child which will be born later is god? Then, there'll be many gods in this world. Sorry if I've offended anyone. Just something I thought of.

  17. Wah that's an even more interestin question, hafi.
still a sperm is involved to fertilise the egg in surrogate case tho. eh but i got no cause for arguin...-mental relapse-

  18. Well sis Wikipedia or internet is NOT a reliable source of religious knowledge. Sorry but I believed that Internet is evil and with regards to religion, if any of us wants to noe more or clarify about mary or maryam, u can do so by enquiring the respective religous teachers.

  19. to iyuan: There are three theory to the name:
    1) Bloody mary was named after Mary Mallon who was also known as typhoid Mary as she was the cause of several typhoid outbreaks. Mary was the first "healthy carrier" of typhoid fever in the United States.
    2) could also be named after Queen Mary I of England who reigned as Queen of England for a short five years (r.1553-1558).
    3) The drink is crimson in color looks like blood and taste like crap. Apparently the first time the drink was created, one of the consumer squealed "BLARDY MARY" after tasting it and thus the name sticks......

Anyway there is this urban legend where if you chant "BLOODY MARY" into a mirror with the lights switched off, thirteen times or so, a vengeful spirit will appear in the mirror. i go check it out on the net then i post it on my site..wait for it k?
