After reading souldollsgarage's blog entry today, i decided to do a search on Yahoo search & Google for my user Id: firestarlet. The last time I googled, almost every firestarlet traced back to my Multiply site or my responses to other Multiply users but today, using the new Yahoo search i had new stumbling upons, which i thought was rather startling.
I never knew that anyone or website administrator would keep tab of the usage statistics of my site, so when i found my Multiply journal being in the Top 100 of 1380/1371 Total Referrers over Dec 07(no.55) and Jan 08(no.59) respectively at some site,i was Shocked! My first reaction was WHAT in the world IS a REFERRER? After readin a few definitions, i am still 
..obviously i dun quite understand what the definition means. Hmmm one of them is:
Referrer- Used in Web analytics, it is the URL or IP address that tracks where a visitor to a Webpage originated (e.g., previous page, link from another Web site, or search engine
The next question is WHAT is WEB ANALYTICS?
A generic term meaning the study of the impact of a Web site on its users. E-commerce companies often use Web analytics software to measure such concrete details as how many people visited their site, how many of those visitors were unique visitors, how they came to the site (i.e., if they followed a link to get to the site or came there directly), what they searched with on the site's search engine, how long they stayed on a given page or on the entire site, what links they clicked on and when they left the site. Web analytic software can also be used to monitor whether or not a site's pages are working properly. With this information, Web site administrators can determine which areas of the site are popular and which areas of the site do not get and can then use this data to streamline a site to create a better user experience.
Can somebody pls explain to me tis Referrer word in a simpler/layman term to me?
Ouh and i was surprised to find out that i am a member to tis Music Community called Soundclick but it all came back to me, when i saw the group's name of the soundclip that started playin the moment i click on the site.

I've no exact idea of what is a referrer... Well, maybe you should try and put up Nuffnang ads on ur site, cuz... Who knows with the traffic of site visitors you have, you might be able to make some moolahs along the way? Sambil berenang minum air.... Hee~!

ReplyDeleteYou would have to have a banner of their client's ad on ur blog then they kinda track the visitor flow in to your site and then they pay you accordingly. I joined but never put yet... ahaha... so no money. mana tau your blog has enuff peeps visiting for you to earn something? hee~!
souldollgarage: i read la but it fail to register proper.. it stated "When visiting a webpage, the referer or referring page is the URL of the previous webpage from which a link was followed"...meaning? my site leads people to another link? so it's like people refer to my page before proceeding to another site eh? *blur*
