Pig Skin SHoe Lining

http://shhhh67.multiply.com/photos/photo/36/1?
For my muslim friends & family, juz in case u might not know how to identify the pig skin linings in shoes, here's a clear picture. hope that it makes u more cautious and aware with choosin ur shoes.

when i was in aussieland, i saw kangaroo skin also havin similar pore pattern but i guess, it's best to juz leave those killer heels or comfy sandals alone, if u see the trademark "3 dots".

  1. ya its true..coz i eva wanna buy a Gucci handbag wen d chinese saleslady approached me and told me its pigskin. i was so shocked but really appreciate her concern, maybe she saw me wearing hijab, dats why she approached me. she told me the trademark for pigskin is "3dots"...so i happily made my way to Coach boutique instead. they use calf leather. but i guess nowadays, major malls do put a sign if d product is made of pigskin. one of it is Timberland.

sitz: no worries, juz playin my part as a fellow muslim, spreadin some awareness n remindin each other :)

  9. wahh tis one i dunno...juz look out for those 3 dots, i guess?

  10. those 3 dots looks very synthetic.. doesnt look like "au natural".. but better be was-was

  11. in regards to pig skin.. there are 2 school of thoughts. One said that its ok and the other better be careful than head towards issues. I say if you dah terbeli and tak tahu.. what can u do, but if u are aware of it, better do something! I was wearing a leather jacket for 2 years before realisiing it was pig- i gave it away to charity... beratus dolar habis ...sigh :P Yup, hush puppies is notorious with their pig linings, unfortunately.

  12. But wat is u wear socks for the shoes?! Hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  13. so, can i say that the 3 dots characteristic is a universal sign of pig skin lining? on any item? sorry....mcm banyak songeh plak...

    ReplyDelete
  14. iyuan: i presume its pretty safe as long as u dun touch it and not was-was? hee i'm not really sure, i'd juz avoid it totally, dun have to think so much over it.
azeanz: yeah it's the pore patterns on the pig skin, so can assume it's pretty universal.

  15. there is also a form of PVU that has many2 dots. the salesperson shared that pig skin is more orderly and spread out. The PVU ade dots but its all scattered all over the place.

Pig skin doTs are in sets of 3.

N i can't stand it wen sales peePz deny that its pig skiN, wen it actuallY is!! there are suM mcm tuh..nak kene siKUuuu betoLLL!!! gRrrr..

  17. Just wondering why are some pigskin are 3 dots and then 2 dots and then 1 dot, at random... so those are fake pig skins ker? Real ones must be constant 3 dots ker? what if you wear stockings and then wear the shoes.. how does that qualifies? i wonder>

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hmm well pigskin is considered a high quality product coz "it can absorb sweat", prevent smelly feet and all. N it is very expensive ahh. For cheaper shoes from china, i think its more of a fake pig skin... trying to look "class" n all, and it will really look very very similar... And i wont be surprised if china shoes mix pigskin with calf leather(remember sausage story in Malaysia). About the dots, i dun think its always there ahh (from wat I've observe), coz hush puppies shoes and adidas (women's shoes) dun have those dots or perhaps the dots are too small to be seen. I think when buying shoes jus be wary and ask, if the answer is no, buy it. If ade ape2 masalah, dosa kita org tu yg tanggung. Sekurang2nya kita tanya dan prihatin, lepas tu kita tawakal aje. Kalau susah2 pakai selipar jepun with toe socks untuk gi org kahwin ke ape ---> guarantee halal~ Hehehehe.

  19. emm that's what i was told. they should appear like the one in the picture. i think theoretically u can still wear the shoes because u r not exactly touchin the pig skin, but personally...i'd rather not, me geli.

may i request to Miss Iqlima to ask the ustaz(ah) at Darul Arqam on their views on this, babe? i think they would give a better view in the religious aspect. ur help will be much appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  20. peanutgal, i think so too, coz the picture in the link does not look authentic.... the patterns are such that they are symetrical naturally.i am somewhat not too convinced the picture is pig skin... coz it looks to synthetic...

    ReplyDelete
  21. the ones that i saw from other shoes when notices of pig skin lining were placed on the shoe shelf also have the same pattern...it may not be exactly symmetrical, but they form the triangular pattern...

  22. My Gucci bag tat I bought recently GUCCI HYSTERIA, luckily is not from pigskin. Phewww!!! kalau tidak - menangis sey. Save punya save, tup-tup pigskin. Tak ke hampa.. 27. found somethin to update abt pig skin products

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Thanks for your question and your desire to know more about the teachings of Islam. May Allah increase your knowledge and grant you insight to understand Islamic rulings.

Muslims should strive hard to keep their bodies and clothes clean and pure; hence it is better for Muslims to wear leather that is originally permissible or derived from an animal that is lawful.

Responding to the question, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore states the following:

Thank you for your query. We commend your effort to seek the truth in the religion.

The majority of scholars consider pig and all derivatives from it as heavy najis, which entails the necessary purification of seven washings, one of them with a mixture of sand and water, for surfaces that come into contact with pig and its organs. However, the condition is that the surface contact is wet or moist. If it is dry, then no purification is necessary.

Hence, wearing shoes or using things that are made from pig's organs are not advisable since it runs into possibility of being wet or moist and hence necessitates purification. Without such purification, Prayer (salah ) is not valid.

We hope that this reply answers your question. Please continue to seek religious knowledge at mosques or by reading authentic materials. A good book that you can rely on is The Reliance of the Traveller by Nuh Ha Mim Keller. This book can be found in many Muslim bookstores.

  28. Hi,

Just thought of sharing this with you guys so that you won't get panicky..=)
Some man-made leather may look like pig's skin too..:

  33. I also had email sent to HUSH PUPPIES UK department and it confirmed that pig skin as the material used over there but Alhamdulillah the company in charge of HUSH PUPPIES product in SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA and INDONESIA had given assurance. Even the SUNBABY kids shoes which were widely said to be using pig skin as 3dots had been found turned to be just the pattern created by the manufacturer after lab test was done. I had been reading and getting news of HUSH PUPPIES footwear made of pig skin but so far no example had been given or shown by those who had been spreading these news. It is better if we have proof as we are actually giving bad name to people's business. Muslim countries like PAKISTAN and THE MIDDLE EAST would not have imported these shoes if they contain pigskin.

  34. Firestartlet ..i m sending all this because i m also like other muslim, trying not to buy shoe made of pigskin which is forbidden in islam.
