Hold money in contempt.

  3. did some research.....ok so apparently Sasanian were the Persian people during the period of 224 - 651 AD. We know it today as Iran. It was one of the superpowers of that period & held a vast empire, second only to the Romans. Arab forces, united under Islam, defeated the Sasanian armies in 637 AD. The last Sasanian ruler died in 651 AD.

ok here's an interesting bit of history:
I remember in the sirah, the holy Prophet once sent a messenger carrying a letter inviting the Persian monarch to Islam, however he received it with insolence and tore up the letter. "So will his kingdom be torn up" said the holy Prophet when the news reached him. Anarchy reigned supreme in the Sasanian Empire till the dynasty was extinguished by the Muslim victory at the battle of Madain in 637. The great and glorious Persian monarchy full of pride n ambition came to an ignominious end and a new chapter opened for Persia under the banner of Islam.

  5. YEAHH well-done Adiy!!

true true..the Sasanian Empire was the one that existed juz before the Islamic Caliphs took over Persia.

U see, over abt 400 years, the Sasanian Empire was governed by several kings, and this quote actually came from one of the earlier rulers, Ardeshir, durin which the Empire was thriving and he was known to be a great & just man. The ones who didn't heed to number 3 & 4 were his successors! It was after many successors that the empire crumbled, mainly hmm...what else?? the ruler was too deluded with power jostling with the Romans and durin that period, the tribes of Arabia stopped their internal feuding & were united by our beloved Prophet Muhammad(saw).

If i am not mistaken, the Prophet was involved in wars in the land of Arabia, but it was durin Abu Bakar's(as) caliphate that Khalid bin Walid and delegations (including the letter u mentioned) were sent to conquer the Persian empire and one of the first important wins for the Muslims was at the "Zatus Salasil" or "Battle of Chains", tis marks the start of the fallin of the Sasanian/Persian empire into the hands of the Islamic Caliphates~

  9. Yeah that’s true, the invasion took place after the death of the Prophet SAW ; during the Abu Bakar’s RA caliphate & the full conquest during the caliphate of Umar RA , however the the remarkable thing was that Prophet SAW knew from divine inspiration & prophesized about the conquest of Persia & Rome by the Muslims on several occasions, long before it happened:

The Messenger SAW, looking ahead to the day when the Persian empire would crumble, said to Suraqah, 'How will you feel when you are wearing the bracelets of Chosroes?'

And indeed that event took place. When Persia was conquered, the bracelets, belt and crown of Chosroes were brought to Umar RA. He summoned Suraqah ibn Malik and put the royal insignia on him.

The Prophet SAW said “You will attack Arabia and Allah will enable you to conquer it, then you will attack Persia and He would make you conquer it. Then you would attack Rome and Allah will enable you to conquer it….” (siratun nabi)

“ I have been given the keys of Persia. By God, I see the white palaces of Mada’in…” (siratun nabi)

The Prophet SAW said “ Khosrau will be ruined and there will be no Khosrau after him and Caesar will surely be ruined and there will be no Caesar after him, and you will spend their treasures in Allah’s cause. (Bukhari)

The pages of history bear out the fact that the prophecies of the Holy Prophet SAW came to be true in all details and these kingdoms which at the time of the prophecy were so formidable that the Muslims could not even conceive of their conquest, fell like a house of cards before the rising tide of the Muslim power. : ))

  15. l.o.l man, but seriously..

regardin' the conquest of the sasanian & byzantine empire, it is a whole chunk of history text by itself & it would be doin injustice for any historian (less myself!) to merely summarized all that into lil sketches.

If u're really into it though, then may i recommend an exquisite piece of work by the late great Indian scholar Shams-ul-Ulama' Allama Shibli Nu'mani , orginally written in the Urdu language ( Btw, Urdu language ranks no.2 in Islamic literature after Arabic) entitled "Al-Farooq" the life of Omar the Great, consisting of 2 volumes.
Whats nice is that this monumental work has been translated into stylish fluent English of old which i truly love! Translated by Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, the famed translator & scholar in Oriental studies.
This is by no chance an ordinary work, it was a thorough research work which aimed at deriving purely authentic sources. A must owned reference book & definitely must read. : )

  16. Fight and you may die. Run and you'll live, at least a while. And, dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance -- just one chance -- to come back here and tell our enemies, that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!

  19. Yes, I like the lines except for the first line and my tongue in cheek reply is:-

    Hold not money in contempt,
But realise its just a tool,
Don't forget you need it to pay the rent,
Value your tools, don't be a fool!
